Cultura vs Carlsbad Inn

    Rained out! (Calavera)

Gaspar 19  Draft 12

Gaspar took charge the first inning and stayed ahead of The Draft the entire game. Gaspar's defense was solid with Mike Maltinsky commanding the outfield and making great catches that for him were routine. Gary Soper made a great shoe string catch that I was certain would get by him. And Jeff Jacobs looked sensational in his uniform. Gaspar's hitting was steady throughout the line-up. Gene Becker hit a screamer down the third base line in the 8th inning that drove in 2 RBIs and landed him on second. MVP Mike Endeman hit a homerun and a triple. Ernie Martinez hit a timely homerun at the top of the 8th, driving in 3 RBIs. And Mike Maltinsky didn't hit any home runs (we are thinking about trading him). The only comment that manager Jimmie Martin made was that the third batter in the line-up sucked. Roney Lewis went 4 for 4 for the Draft, hitting a single, 2 doubles, and a home run. Rookie Robert Kresky also had a home run. Greg Lorton hit 4 bloopers all of which landed him on first base--so he was 4 for 4. Thanks to Eddie Gillette and Gene LaChimia who did an excellent job umpiring.!

Plotkin Group 12   Nucci’s 11
Plotkin Group and Nucci's had a good, close game today at Alga with PG coming out on top 12 to 11 in the 9th inning. PG started strong with the first five batters getting on and scoring. Dave Ash hit a two run homer in the bottom to bring NU back a little bit. Nucci's pushed across 4 runs in the 4th inning to tie it at six apiece, and eventually took an 11 to 8 lead in the 7th inning. PG scored two runs in each of the last two innings while holding NU scoreless for the win. Dave Frantz was 4 for 4 with a homer, and Rick Shaw and Scott Koopsen were also 4 for 4. For NU, Tom Winterbourne had a two run triple and several outstanding defensive plays. Manager Lil was 3 for 3. Chuck Sutherland was pressed into duty at second base for PG and made every play look easy. But the defensive star was Marty Topper in left field who made numerous catches, none better than the final game-saving catch to end the game with the bases full of NU players. Thanks to Skip Moyer and Tony Sando for umpiring.!

Village Pie Shop 22   Solana Spa 14
Kevin McBarron and Joe Maher hit first inning HRs to stake Village Pie to a 5-1 lead.  Solana Spa dominated the middle innings with Bob Blachford, Chuck Todd, Pete Penseyers all going 3 for 4. Big HR blasts by Joe Paul and TBone put Solana ahead 14-6 in the 4th inning.  Nice defensive plays by Dan Griffin at third made it difficult for VPS to get anything going.  But the Piester’s fought back with Steve Bartholomew’s two big hits, a HR and a triple doing the damage.  Perfect 4/4 days from Al Cabacungan, Greg Newman, and Harry Peacock pushed VPS ahead 15-14 in the 6th.  A couple defensive gems by left fielder Maher kept the score close late.  VPS finally pulled away with big hits from Lucky Bishop, Jeff Gorman, Harry Peacock, and McBarron’s second homer of the game.
